There’s so much left to speculation with this record. Is it some sort of repackaging of two singles from 1973? When was it actually released? What was the husband and wife team of Walter Whisenhunt andGloria Ann Taylor attempting with this record? The things that we do know are equally compelling. Gloria Ann Taylor had a diverse, genre leaping career that featured an exceptional cover of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene.” Whisenhunt seems to be just as celebrated for his left field disco productions. The “Deep Inside You” 12″ takes two 7″ singles, including the Leon Warepenned “What’s Your World,” and repackages them in remixed form. It’s as if Taylor and Whisenhunt were attempting to appeal to the disco dancing crowd that had left them behind. The songs are heavily dubbed out with tons of reverb and packed with curious imperfections. Those imperfections are what make this record so unique. They breath life into the pain hidden in the lyrics and provide a window into the soul behind the music. It’s no wonder the original private press catches so much on the used market. There is no other record like it.
