Having released his first Soundstream 12″ some six years earlier, Frank Timm decided to dust down his now famous moniker for a surprise follow-up in 2005. As we now know, it was a wise choice. Freakin’, featuring four slabs of colossal cut-up disco-house heaviness, was the 12″ that firmly established his now infamous loopy, floor-friendly sound. All these years on, it still sounds fantastic. “Freakin” is amongst Timm’s most instantly accessible offerings, while the string-laden “3rd Movement” remains a benchmark in sample manipulation (and, of course, a dancefloor banger to boot). The deeper, Rhodes-heavy “Soul Train” is also worth a listen.
