Masks, the duo of Alexis Georgopoulos (Arp, The Alps) and Max Ravitz (Patricia, Inhalants) debuts on Opal Tapes with Food Plus Drug (II), featuring four limb-twisting techno tracks. “Wormhole” bumps around with layers folding and phasing into new forms. “Vapors” sits on a gargantuan kick, sprinkling off blinking hats and meloncholic pads. “Zebra” pulls off the veil and opens the filter, with brighter, plucked tones shepherding the track into its true form, techy but never too sharp. Closer “Fragile Feelings” winds energies down somewhat, into a reflective and subtle bop. This is honest electronic music made by people who care.
